After graduating from Edinburgh College of Art, I continued to produce my artwork creating 2D and 3D paper and fabric pieces as well as smaller items such as handmade journals, jewelry and cards. Whist my work has evolved, the loose theme has always been stories. Be they stories passed down through families or fairy tales and folk lore, all stories enlighten, warn and explain what we don’t understand. I like to work with old books, maps, music scores, paper, fabric and lace scraps, buttons and other materials that have a history. We all gather things throughout our lives, to remind ourselves of events, people and moments in time. These objects prompt our memories and result in stories. Whist some of my work is based on my own memories and family history much of my current work is based on the stories that belong to other people. I am told stories, overhear stories or read about family histories which inspire me to create my artwork. As well as my personal artwork, I take on commissions to produce work based on people’s memories, using my ideas to bring a memory to life. The materials I use are repurposed; found, donated or saved for ‘something’ and therefore have their own history which they bring to the piece. Sometimes people give me the materials with which they wish to produce the piece.

If you have an idea for a piece of work, wish to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, birth or similar special event, or capture a treasured memory, please feel free to contact me to chat about how we can bring your memories, family history and stories to life.

Ultimately, stories are the ties that bind; weaving those you love closer together and keeping them safe.
