ARTIST'S STATEMENT

From around 1974, I have been totally immersed in the whole concept of using clay as a means of expression. I have found myself being drawn to this very basic material. After obtaining a BA in ceramics at Cardiff College of Art in 1979, I went on to do a post-graduate art teacher’s certificate, and then got a tutor’s post at Llanover Hall Arts Centre in Cardiff. Here I was able to continue with my own ceramic work as well as technician work and teaching.

I continued to do my own ceramic art in Holland and Brighton. Eventually I returned to Cardiff where I ran Cardiff City Farm Pottery with a fellow artist. There we organised classes as well as exhibiting our own ceramic art. This, being immersed in the community, was my ideal situation.

Upon moving to Bradford on Avon in 1992, I raised a family and sold my ceramics. Then I went on to become interested in art as a therapy. Pursuing this, I acquired qualifications in Counselling and Art Therapy. I have a large amount of teaching experience in both workshop events and art centres, with children, adults and those with special needs. I feel that teaching contributes to my understanding of my own ceramic work.

I live with my husband and three children. I share a workshop with Liz Watts in Bradford on Avon.
