Jeremy Haslam has been an archaeologist, writer and lecturer, as well as a freelance photographer, while living in Bradford on Avon since the early 70s. In the 1990s he took a degree in 3D Design (glassmaking) at the Surrey Institute of Design, Farnham, while living for a time in London. Circumstances have however drawn him back to the attractions of Bradford on Avon, where he has a workshop.

From the early 1970s he has photographed landscapes in the west country and elsewhere, developing visual ideas first in black-and-white, and since the early 1980s using medium-format coulour transparencies. This work has concentrated on capturing the abstract qualities of the elements of line, pattern and colour in the man-made landscape. Many of these have been taken on Salisbury Plain and the Marlborough Downs, where the land meets the sky in ways particular to the this area. He has also taken many photographs in the wilder places of western Ireland, where he and his family had a cottage in the 1980s.

Since the mid 1980s he has developed the art of the photocollage, using combinations of photographic prints, taking forward visual ideas worked out by David Hockney in the 1970s. Since returning to Bradford he has re-energised these techniques, this time around using a digital camera and computer.

He has had a number of solo and joint exhibitions of his landscape photography and photocollages in Bradford on Avon, Devizes, Bath, London and Western Ireland. These have included a recent exhibition held in the Priory Barn, Bradford on Avon, as part of the Bradfoprd on Avon Arts Festival, September 2006.

Jeremy Haslam also practices as a web site designer. This site is an example of his work. Links to other sites he has created can be found at

A current project in which Jeremy is involved is the creation of true-scale street elevations of Bradford on Avon using photocollage, and their presentation on the web as a historical and educational resource. The first fruits of this project can be viewed on the web at
